Democrats and Republicans Call for Attorney General’s Job
I don’t understand some of you.
In particular I am talking about those of you that asseverate that “there is no difference between a Democrat and a Republican".
Even if that were the case, that there is no measurable difference between a Democrat and a Republican, that they all have two eyes, two ears, a nose, and a mouth to lie out of, there is still a huge difference between them in that they are supported by vastly different types of people with contrasting interests.
And because of that, Democrats and Republicans offer a very valuable service to all Americans, in that they act as a check and balance to each other.
This country has been through a nightmare for the past 6 years all because there was no balance of power in Washington.
There is no way that had the Republicans maintained control over the house and the Senate last November that Rumsfeld would’ve lost his job as secretary of defense.
Abu Ghraib didn’t cost Rumsfeld his job nothing short of a shift of power in Washington would do it.
Up until the day before the Democrats took over Congress, Dubya was insisting that Rumsfeld was doing a masterful job in Iraq and that we were on course for victory.
There is no way Bush would’ve consulted anyone about changing his strategy in Iraq if the democrats hadn’t taken over both houses of congress just like there is zero chance that anyone outside of government would’ve known that the FBI had been breaking the law over the past 6 years secretly prying into personal information on Americans.
When Republicans had no one to answer to they fostered and cultured an atmosphere in this country where anyone who openly challenged their ideas had to defend themselves against charges that they were traitors to their country.
If for no other reason than that it was a blessing from God that Americans woke up and put democrats in charge of congress.
If for no other reason.
Now Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is being faced with the reality of pursuing criminal charges against members of the FBI that were doing what they were told.
I don’t believe for a second that this was the first that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales heard about what was going on at the FBI.
Hell, his department were prosecuting these people on the basis of the evidence they found from these illegal searchers.
How they acquired this information isn’t news to him.
This administration has been abusing the Patriot Act since the beginning, its just there weren’t any checks in place to let us know what was going on.
Thanks to a audit by the Justice Department we know that the FBI was even lying to congress about how many of these “national security letters’ they were issuing out.
The FBI's agents were demanding personal data on people without official authorization by issuing tens of thousands of “national security letters,” so that they could skirt around needing any judicial review.
They key word is official. They were just exercising a tactic to circumvent the rights of Americans written into the Patriot Act by its framers from beginning.
You better believe these agents were not mavericks out on their own.
I have no doubt that these agents were doing what they were told, by people who knew what kind of tactics this administration would turning a blind eye to.
And what nobody talks about are who these agents were demanding information about.
I will give you three guesses as to who they were.
You’re an idiot if you need to use even two of them.
And this is where the core of our countries bigotry begins to reel its ugly head because most Americans wouldn’t even care that the vast majority of these Americans getting their inalienable rights trampled on our Arab-Muslim Americans.
It is absolutely embarrassing to me that we have an Attorney General of the United States who maintained as recently as last November that he can’t do his job if he and other government law enforcement agencies have to follow the law.
But do you expect more from someone who also says that the "The Constitution doesn't say every individual in the United States or every citizen is hereby granted or assured the right of habeas.''?
I don’t.
You don’t get what you hope for you get what you expect, that is, unless you expect to get what you hope for.
What came out of this audit by the Justice Department is exactly what I expected.
