For those of you that don’t understand why some Americans get physically ill whenever we are reminded that George Bush is our president this is why.
Well, here is at least one reason why.
The Pentagon just released a report detailing some of the known incidents of desecrating the Koran that has been going on at Guantanamo Bay where the U.S. has been illegally holding known terrorists without trial, as well as a bunch of terrorist looking people since 2002.
What desecration of the Koran are you talking about? Didn’t Dubya and his people throw a hissy-fit when Newsweek reported that U.S. soldiers flushed a Koran down the toilet? Didn’t Newsweek have to retract that story?
Well yeah, Newsweek did retract that story. It seems that they got the particulars about the incident wrong, no one actually flush a Koran down the toilet, at least they couldn’t prove it, but Newsweek did get the practice of desecrating the Koran absolutely right.
But you didn’t hear that from Bush or his people did you?
Of course you didn’t.
The Pentagon, and that is the U.S. Pentagon for those of you that might think that there are other nations out that that have Pentagons that “hate the United States”, the Pentagon said that U.S. personnel have been kicking the Koran around in front of the detainees, urinating on the Koran, soaking them with water balloons, stepping on them, and scribbling obscenities on the cover and within the books.
I wonder why Dubya didn’t tell you that?
Maybe it was because he and his people were too busy trying to give you the impression that since the toilet flushing incident couldn’t be substantiated then the whole story was false.
Or maybe it was because people who found it within themselves to vote for Bush last November couldn’t care less if Americans behave with integrity anymore.
No, he and his administration wanted you to believe that since Newsweek apparently got the toilet flushing part wrong then the whole story was wrong and that this public relations nightmare that has been a public relations nightmare ever since it was released was entirely fabricated.
That was until this week.
Now the White House has to admit, that this kinda stuff has been going on, which is a far different tune than they were singing against Newsweek.
"It is unfortunate that some have chosen to take out of context a few isolated incidents by a few individuals," presidential spokesman Scott McClellan said in a statement.
Hmmm.
Is it just me or do neo-conservatives really seem to have this attitude that the real crime isn’t doing the crime, its in leaking to the American people that you have been doing the crime?
Pat Buchanan came out and called Deep Throat Mark Felt a “corrupt cop” who “violated his oath and, out of malice and spite, leaked the fruits of an honest FBI investigation to the nest of Nixon-haters at the Washington Post, then lied about it for 30 years."
Forget the fact that Nixon had men break into the Democratic Party National Headquarters to hopefully get some information so he could win a reelection.
Forget about all that. I guess his oath to keep his mouth shut about illegal activities of the President of the United States takes priority over right and wrong, justice and injustice, legal and illegal?
And I honestly feel that this is pretty typical of the party of traditional American values, its a nice distraction. In reality they don’t give a shit whether or not they are acting with integrity, they didn’t with Nixon, evidently Pat Buchanan still doesn’t, and it’s apparently too much to expect that Dubya or his administration would be any different.
Why do I get the feeling that Dubya and his cronies really aren’t all that concerned about any of these things that have been going on their watch?
They weren’t all that terribly choked up with the Abu Ghraib abuses, but they were stomping mad that it got out.
They continually lie about the going-ons in Guantanamo Bay, fighting every single step of the way to prevent these people from seeing their day in court where we can find out what is really going on there.
Hell, even when Amnesty International reports on what is going on there all Bush can say is, “they hate America.”
Which is pretty much the same thing that Fidel Castro says about the report every year as well as Kim Jong Il, who Dubya doesn’t hesitate to blast on their human rights record quoting the same Amnesty International report when they aren’t putting his name in the same sentence as theirs.
"We've had terrible happenings that have really, really hurt our image of the United States," Laura Bush said to anyone who bothered to listen. "And people in the United States are sick about it."
Well talk to your husband lady.
We can’t.
He won’t let people like me near him and he doesn’t stop to talk to us when he has us all herded together in his designated “free-speech” zones.
Otherwise I would tell him myself.
