When I was a kid I remember my mother telling me that she would die for me. She said she would die for any of her children without a moment hesitation. There was no question if there were a choice to be made between her or us she would always chose to offer her life over ours.
That had an effect on me.
Anyone that loves you that much you can’t help but want to make proud of you. Anyone that loves you that much you can’t help but want to make sure you do everything you can not to make her turn premature gray worrying about you needlessly.
So if that means calling her and telling her I am running late, or telling her that I am going to be spending the night at someone’s house or whatever, it was no sweat off my nuts.
I did it.
I propose we add a copy of Alex Haley ’s “Roots” on DVD inside of every crate of foreign AID that we send over to Africa for the next few years.
The United Nations Children’s Fund is reporting that the trafficking of human beings, particularly children in Africa is rampant.
The report says that 53 African nations, or 89% of all of the countries on the continent are trafficking slaves to and from neighboring countries, with 34% of these slaves being traded directly to Europe and 26% going to the Middle East .
They say African children are twice as likely to be sold into slavery as adult women. Mostly because selling your children into slavery is looked at as a legitimate way to escape from poverty.

Selling your child into a life of physical, psychological and emotional abuse is such an insignificant price to pay for a new roof on the outhouse and a new bucket for the well.
It seems clear to me that during the infamous African Diaspora European slave traders weren’t snatching enslaving Africans as much as they were exploiting what can only be called an African proclivity to sell your own children to anyone with a check book.
Although there aren’t any reliable numbers as to how many Africans are being sold into slavery each year the estimates of those already in bondage all over the world put the numbers in the millions.
