eleven die after grasshoppers swarm, no it wasn't a punishment from God
I don't doubt that some of the things I read in religious mythology are actually tied to real events. I just doubt that those events happened the way they describe or for the reasons that are ascribed to them.
Like for example, when the legend of Gilgamesh reads " the seven judges of hell," raised their torches, lighting the land with flame, and a storm that turned day into night, "smashed the land like a cup," and flooded the area " we know now that they were talking about a meteorite, just like in the Huandgi myth that said Huandgi had been taken away by dragons after nine dragons came down and destroyed the ancient town of Huangling.
That turned out to be a meteorite too.
The temple they built for Huandgi turned out to be built right on top of it.
There we have two myths grounded in real events just with corny explanations that were probably the best that they could do at the time to explain what happened.
Listen, I don't doubt that at one time there was a cataclysmic flood in 7000 - 5500 BC when a land bridge collapsed severing the Black sea from the Mediterranean.
What I have a problem with was that it was done by "God" to kill some bad people.
Maybe the waters did cover the known world, but then that brings us to another issue I have with ancient myths. consider the source.
You are a sheepheder. I am willing to bet when it rains he thinks it is raining everywhere in the world and when it is 110 degrees it is 110 degrees all over the world as well.
Personally I think when the land bridge collapsed and all that salt water came running into the valley a bunch of people probably did get fucked up in the process.
And I think that since a lot of the people that died used to treat Noah like shit, since he was lucky enough to have survived, he was able to tell the story the way he wanted to he told, and as a result, the world now believes that those that died "got what they deserved".
Eleven people died the other day and literally thousands were taken to the hospital with breathing difficulties after a swarm of grasshoppers invaded a town in central Sudan .
Medical authorities say that they have treated 1,685 cases of asthma related complications in people since late October and the cause has been an unprecedented increase in grasshoppers.
People are saying that the grasshoppers are giving off a strong smell which is making people pass out.
Now I don't think one has to be incurably cynical to see that had this same thing happened 3,000 years ago someone would be writing on the back of a sheet of dried out lamb skin "that God had brought his wrath down upon the non-believers". Then 5,000 years later in the present day there would be some asshole standing on a college campus here in America harassing the shit out of people while he tossed that quote out while he was trying to make a case that it applies to how we are living in the last days because of gays, civil rights and the liberal media.
Here is a newsflash people, read your bible. Don't just carry it around. Open it up. It has never been proclaimed to be the word of God. That would be the Koran. The Bible is inspired by God. In other words, while you are out there tossing out quotes be mindful that God didn't write one single word of it.
You are quoting the opinion of someone who probably wasn't even there when the shit happend, and said things for political reasons that have long since been forgotten.
Yes, there were grasshoppers. Yes people died. However it wasn't because they didn't pray hard enough or that the people that died were on God's short list of things to do that day.
It was because the grasshoppers stunk really bad.for some mysterious reason.

Chinese meteor 'may explain historic mystery' of Nine Dragons
Huandgi one of China's founding fathers is said to have been taken away by dragons when nine dragons came down and destroyed the ancient town of Huangling. Well that is one way of putting it.
