If we go to War 800 missiles scheduled to hit Iraq in first 48 hours
The US intends to shatter Iraq "physically, emotionally and psychologically" by raining down on the Iraqi people as many as 800 cruise missiles in two days.
Well, that'll do it.
Unless Allah himself plans on putting sand in the gas tanks of all the US fighter jets that will be about as close to a done deal as you can get.
They are calling it "Shock and Awe" which to me sounds more like they are going to let off a whole bunch of fireworks.
Although it has a pussy name, 800 bombs would be more than twice the number of missiles launched during the entire 40 days of the 1991 Gulf War.
According to the US the main objective of dropping 800 bombs in 48 hours is not just to disable Iraq's fighting capacity but to leave the population dispirited and unwilling to support Saddam's regime.
That's funny. I always thought that the people of Iraq didn't support Saddam anyway. I thought they were only supporting him because he would kill them if they didn't.
At least that is what FOX news keeps drilling into us. I guess when they want us to feel sorry for the Iraqi people they are victims of a terrible dictator but when we are going to literally level the entire country sparing no man woman or child; suddenly they have this fighting spirit that needs to broken.
I guess this is an example of being damned if you do and damned if you don't.
It also doesn't look as if the Dubya's strong-armed tactics of scapegoating Saddam for September 11th and having a short quick war to help put life in to his economy is going over too well with the rest of the world.
The Bush administration's increasingly aggressive stance towards Iraq has been provoking more and more world leaders into being increasingly more vocal in voicing their opinions against the US.
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld drove a wedge further into US-European relations when he dismissed Germany and France as representing "old Europe".
His comments drew sharp responses from the foreign ministers of both countries.
That a boy, when you don't have evidence to convict and you can't get someone to see your point of view just regress into "name calling". That always seems to work.
Evidently, the rest of the world doesn't seem to be so easily romanticized by a 10-galloon hat, a pair of blue jeans and a drawl like we are here.
Only an American can be duped into thinking that a country like North Korea that has lost 1.2 billion people over the past 15 years to starvation as a result of famine is a legitimate threat to the stability of the world.
I thought to be a threat to the "stability" of the region you had to be threatening to take over somebody.
And boy hasn't that term "stability" tossed around a lot lately?
Technically, if the entire world was controlled by Muslim fundamentalist the world would be stable.
Hell, Afghanistan was stable under the Taliban. People couldn't do shit, say shit, read shit or think shit but things were stable.
When we talk about being stable, we are talking about being stable in regards to our interests and our economy.
Like I said, if the American people can buy into North Korea being dangerous then they surely can buy into acting like al- Qaeda were just a diversionary tactic by the ever contriving Saddam Hussein.
I mean goddamn, taking the war against terror to Saddam's front porch is like being punched by a bully after school and you retaliate by kicking his little sister.
We were punched in the mouth by al-Qaeda, in the last 3 months they have assassinated like 2 of our foreign dignitaries.
Still all I am hearing about is Saddam Hussein and whether or not he has scud missiles strapped to the top of mobile homes with the influenza in their warheads.
As far as the information this administration has released Saddam didn't have a damn thing to do with 9-11.
And if you say that this isn't about September 11 then what is it about? We were talking about attacking Iraq on September 10th were we?
I mean come on people, all anyone has ever asked these assholes to bring us is some evidence. Even if you don't want to share that evidence with the people that you are going to ask to hand over their sons and daughters off to possibly die, then the least you can do is share some of those smoking guns with the allies countries that you are asking to join your little Justice League.
But so far, there are no smoking guns. With all the criticism, they are taking if they had them they would show somebody.
French President Jacques Chirac and Russia's Vladimir Putin have agreed to veto any unapproved US attack.
The dossier by Chief inspector Hans Blix, and the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mohamed ElBaradei, is expected to report that Iraqi co-operation with inspectors has been "satisfactory" and they could find no "smoking gun", no evidence that could be used a pretext for war.
But Bush is so popular. He showed so much leadership after 9-11. Why can't they just turn their heads and look the other way like so many Americans did all in the name of patriotism and unity?
C'mon guys, just play the game this once.
