Ads Target Gay Domestic Abuse
I was reading this article about gay domestic violence, and I started thinking about this issue for the first time in my life.
Informing me about gay domestic abuse is like talking about “dilithium crystals” in warp drive engines. The entire issue is entirely over my head.
I don’t mean to be insensitive, and this probably reveals a lot more about me than I am even willing to admit to myself. All I can think of is if I had a son that was getting his ass kicked by an abusive gay lover, as a father, the shame, I think, would drive me to becoming an incurable alcoholic.
The whole issue of gay domestic violence between men conjures images in my head of two men with limp wrists, eyes squinting and heads turned aside, windmill slapping each other to death.
And my son ends up on the losing end of it.
My socialized concept of manhood wants to say if I have a son, and he is biologically driven to like sucking cock, please God, let him be the masculine one in the relationship. I mean, let him be the pitcher not the catcher.
Uh, wait a second, that didn’t come out right.
I mean, at least let him be the man in the relationship. You can’t get much lower than getting your ass-kicked in a homosexual relationship and running to a homeless shelter for protection. I can’t think of anything lower than that for a guy. Uh, damn, that came out even worse.
Let me just shut up until I can think of a better way to say this…
They say that underreporting gay domestic violence is a huge problem and that there are many reasons for this from distrust of law enforcement, to gays and lesbians feeling they have a "more modern" kind of relationship and are unwilling to accept that they have the same problems as straight people. While research into gay domestic violence is slim, reports suggest that about 30 percent of gay couples suffer from domestic abuse, about the same percentage as in the heterosexual community.
Gay male victims often have no recourse but to go to a homeless shelter, "which isn't particularly appropriate," the article said. And male victims, in particular, may be reluctant to come forward at all. "Men are not supposed to be beaten up by anybody, let alone other men," Ok, that is what I was trying to say earlier. They say even lesbians are coming in on the lamb from their lesbian lovers, and that the people that run these shelters are just totally brain fucked by the whole situation because they are accustomed to keeping men out not a super butch with a good right hook.
You’ll have to excuse me, this has totally messed my head up.
