I don’t know who can be surprised about this one, but morality preaching, XXX photo posing, hypocrite talk show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger's is already causing her problems with her brand new television series before the show's even aired. Dr. Laura who is never without a good thing to say about anything right-winged conservative, and never armed with a good reason to do anything is in trouble for her strong anti-homosexual position.
Ironically this is a woman who has a personality and a body that could drive any man gay, has been known to routinely refer to gays as "deviant" and as "biological errors". Schlessinger, who has said society "should discriminate against certain behaviors, "homosexuality among them, could not be reached for comment. In the Times, she says she stands by her comments. "All we're asking is to be heard up front, while they're still developing this," GLAAD executive director Joan Garry tells Los Angeles Times. "It's really to educate them, to give them the full picture of who she is and the kind of things she's saying." The only problem is that GLAAD doesn’t understand that Dr. Laura is unapologetic in her views towards gays and would risk losing what credibility she has if she toned down even a bit for the sake of her show and secondly, her audience, those who listen to her bullshit agree with her on the second class citizenship of gays.
However, once again people should wake up. This is America, the land of the all-mighty dollar, in American we would give Hitler a variety show if he cleaned up during sweeps week. "We believe her words give people permission to put an entire group of people in a second-class place," Garry said, adding that GLAAD's wants Schlessinger to "curtail her defamatory vocabulary." Dr. Laura does advocate all of the things they accuse her of, but she hides her fascist ideals behind a curtain of value arguments that are never challenged on her show, nor are ever strongly supported by philosophical argument. Half of the appeal to her show is that people like to get angry at what she is saying. Her appeal is all rhetoric; highly slanted material that is aimed to click with particular people who have an inability to think for themselves, that is why she is highest rated talk show personality in America right now.
Listening to her show is like watching a monkey type on a typewriter and getting upset when it doesn’t spell a word. Just because she is on the radio playing the part of ethical and moral philosopher doesn’t mean she is going to make a good argument any more regularly than that chimp pounding on a typewriter is going to construct a sentence. Some people are just gluttons for punishment. |
