| Anthrax attacks linked to US extremists NOT the Al-Qaeda Network. |
Despite the seriousness of what I am about to say, please pardon me if I am feeling a bit vindicated this morning. I had a rather interesting conversation with a gentlemen a few weeks ago that has a problem with my definitions.
All students of Philosophy are trained to work within definitions. The first step in communicating is to agree on what words mean. It is amazing to me how few people actually get that.
If you want to criticize me then you must challenge my definitions. They are very similar to my premises. If you except my definitions of certain terms you have to apply them to my argument. Most people just throw out terms like "evil", "terrorist", "Good", "Patriot", "Hero" and just assume that we are both are working on the same definitions of those words.
I made that mistake in an e-mail conversation with a reader about a week ago when I used the word "terrorist" in connection with the KKK.
I for one try not to assume that although we are using the same words, that we are working with the same meanings. So when I ask someone to define "evil" or "hero" or "terrorist" during the course of a conversation people tend to think I am either patronizing them or just being a prick.
My point was that I was hoping that when the federal government drops the book on these terrorist cells in this country we aren't forgetting about our home grown.
Unfortunately he wanted no part of a conversation that connected racial Supremacist groups with the term "Terrorist". I am paraphrasing here but I do believe his statement was "I didn't see any KKK on those airplanes and flew in to the WTC."
Well, maybe those ass backwards hicks don't fly airplanes but it looks like they might be able to lick the back of a postage stamp. And more importantly it doesn't make them any less of terrorists.
My definition of terrorist is "one who tries to advance his political or social agenda through the use of terror". Apparently now at least to some Americans a "terrorist" is inseparably connected with Islam, Middle East, Arab, and al Qaeda.
Who in this country has killed more people, destroyed more property and terrorized more Americans in the effort to advance their social or political agenda more than white supremacist groups?
I am not shocked that this may be home grown terror. What I am shocked at is that so many Americans are not shocked. I thought many of you "Ra Ra Ra Kill the Entire Arab World and let God Sort Em' Out" people would be beside yourselves on this one.
The Washington Post reported today that FBI and CIA officials believe that the parties responsible for the American Anthrax attacks are home grown US extremists not al-Qaeda terror cells.
A senior official in the CIA was quoted as saying that "everything seems to lean toward a domestic source. Nothing seems to fit with an overseas terrorist type operation".
Excerpt taken from FYI:
"Maybe I am being naïve but I was more shaken by the 747's crashing into the WTC. That shit was over the top. Compared to directing a 747 into a skyscraper, sending people Anthrax through the mail is like going from crashing a pickup truck through a plate glass window and open firing a few handguns throughout a packed restaurant during breakfast to sitting at home and randomly prank calling people from the phone book."
Nothing seems to fit huh? Yeah, to you and me both.
Authorities are considering many possibilities, including the associates of right-wing hate groups and people in the US sympathetic to Islamic extremist causes.
There is something to be said about being simple. Thank God there are people in this fucking world whose definitions aren't as limited as others. |
