A great opportunity to show the world that we really are a different breed than everyone else and we failed miserably. In fact between Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib we have shown the world a shining endorcement of all of the things that we supposedly are so offended by when we see Russia, China, Korea and the like treat their precived threats.
The Bush administration couldn't wait to toss people into jail without a trial, torture them, hold them without being charged with anything. They even argued that since they were holding people off American soil the constitution didn't apply.
They atcually were looking for a reason not to live by the very laws that make America so great. It was embarrasing. It is embarrassing. And it should be embarrassing to anyone who believes in what America stands for.

Whether it is “tolerated or not” I look at it like this, when you get captured by the enemy expect to be asked to play a few rounds of naked twister so that they can laugh at your expense. Hey, that is a lot better than getting shot dead by a contractor you've got to admit.
